You may know Intel for their CPU's but they also make the majority of the new chipsets found on every manufacturers motherboards. Asus is well known and respected in the computer business and consistently makes the best product but they charge for their name a bit more heavily than the others. This is not always a bad thing because sometimes they provide a board with more "goodies" on their cutting edge stuff than the others.
Technology is always changing and keeping up with features offered on motherboards is a daily challenge. The features offered and BIOS requirements for an ever changing hardware market make selecting the best manufacturer difficult at times. It takes time for new chipsets and features to make it to every assembly line. The two companies listed below are the industry leaders in the motherboard business. I sell only Intel CPU's and the latest motherboards with all the "goodies". The new 925 chipset boards offer LGA775 CPU support with PCI Express 16x video slots, PCI Express add on slots, SATA/PATA Hard Drive and CD-Rom controllers, PC4300 533MHz 1066MHx FSB, USB2.0 ports, 1394 ports, GB Lan, and 7.1 Surround sound with digital audio interface. These boards are available now if you feel the need for speed!
Asus: Asus wins awards year after year with their motherboards. They are a good and trusted company in the computer world. In my opinion Asus makes the best motherboards in the industry but carry a price tag to match. Sometimes when new features are offered this brand then becomes the best value.
Intel: Intel boards are very good and they usually come out with the latest chipsets and goodies before the other companies.
